The rules were simple. For thirty days eat from a 7" salad plate. Limit choices to three items no bigger than your palm and use common sense on what you ate. It was doable and had an ending date.
So I started. I lost 10 pounds the first week fairly painlessly. What I also noticed was that my eyes were opened on just how much food I was eating by using larger dishes. After a week in I did something drastic. I boxed up all of the extra large dishes, mugs, glasses, huge water jugs and utensils. That is when it hit me. All of the food it took to fill those dishes was being stored on me in fat and ever increasing weight gain and even worse, higher blood sugar readings. When I lower the volume of food, I have much better readings, even if the choices aren't as healthy as they should be. That tells me something important. I must cut the volume of food I eat for my health.
The first 30 days I did pretty good but noticed that during the last half of the challenge I started making some poor choices in what I ate. I started eating a bit more than my plate could hold and found myself grazing. Grazing and snacking is my downfall. So, I started the second round of the small plate challenge.
I have lost 23 pounds since January 20, 2013. I decided to start this blog to help me journal and focus on my goals. I also will use this for menu planning.
